Why use a business consultant?

When I was leading a business, I always wondered why you would use a consultant when you can do things yourself. In fact, one of my favourite sayings was: “Why lend someone your watch to tell you the time, when you can just see it for yourself?”

Well, as I know from experience, you simply can’t do everything yourself. Most leaders don’t even havetime to look at their watch, never mind take in what time it is. In my case, there was no-one at the time who had the industry skills and experience at the level I needed. Today, this type of specialist advice is exactly what I offer.

Big consultancy firms charge big prices. And you’re not always sure where the value will be. By working with me, with my broad, day-to-day, real-world experience in challenging industries, you are accessing practical, knowledgeable advice that has been proven to work.

Engaging me doesn’t mean I arrive with a magic wand and make everything better. We will need to work together, with clearly agreed goals so that you get the very most value from my advice.

What does it cost?

I believe in being completely transparent about pricing. When we first agree to work together, I will spend half a day getting to know you and your business, helping you to define the areas that need my support.

If we decide to go forward with a project, I’ll put together a proposal with the number of days I think we will need, and the
outcomes we’ll achieve. Every project includes a written report with my observations and recommendations, and all my work is treated in the strictest confidence.

Working my way through scaffolding businesses, starting as a labourer

1991

Start-up experience with Sevenhurst Scaffolding,
taking turnover from £0 to £5m

1996

Merger of Sevenhurst with TRAD Scaffolding, building turnover from £10m to £24m

1998

Start-up of TRAD Hire & Sales, growing turnover from £0 to £35m

2002

Start-up of TRAD Safety Systems, growing turnover from £0 to 5m

2013

Acquisition experience as ALTRAD Group acquires the TRAD Group for £50m

2013 onwards

Integration and culture retainment, business
